Our People

Neil Edmundson


Neil Edmundson has been a partner of Oldershaw & Co Ltd since 1983. Neil is the staff partner and deals with all aspects of staffing.

Neil's work at Oldershaw & Co Ltd involves dealing with a broad range of mainly smaller business clients, from farming & agriculture, manufacturing and retail to professional firms, with a major interest in taxation and estate planning.

Over the last 20 years, Neil has been heavily involved in the administration of hockey locally. He also managed the NZ Mens Hockey Team for 8 years in the 1990's and has played in a number of NZ Masters Hockey Teams at various International Tournaments. Neil is a fellow of NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants and served on the Hawkes Bay branch of the Institute for 10 years, 5 years as Chairman.

Marc Nel


Marc Nel immigrated to New Zealand in 1998 after practicing for eight years as a public accountant in a firm as a partner.   Marc gained a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg), a Bachelor of Commercial Science (Honors) (University of South Africa) majoring in auditing, management accounting and finance.

Marc acts for a wide range of commercial and rural clients and offers expertise through his diverse accounting background.

Marc is active in community service through many local organisations.  He has a particular love of fly fishing, tramping and fine arts.

Shaun Brown


 Shaun Brown worked for Oldershaw & Co Ltd from 1999 to 2005 during which time he attained a Bachelor of Business Studies, Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Accountancy and became a Chartered Accountant.  After a two year period working as a commercial accountant and twelve months working abroad, Shaun came back to Oldershaw & Co Ltd in 2008 and became a Principal in 2009.

Shaun is involved with a wide range of clients, from small business clients through to large companies, varying from rental properties, manufacturing, retail and professional services.  Shaun also has an interest in assisting clients with computerised accounting packages such as QuickBooks and MYOB.

Shaun's interests include camping, travelling and testing the human body's endurance limits in swimming, cycling and running.

Alastair Cromie


 Alastair Cromie moved from Hamilton to Napier in 2001 after completing his Bachelor of Business and spending four years managing a medium sized business, and seven years working in Accountants offices in Hamilton and Rotorua.  He became a Chartered Accountant in 2005 and a Principal in 2009.

Alastair acts for a wide range of small to medium sized clients involved in rural or commercial activites.

Alastair is a passionate rugby and cricket supporter and is a regular at McLean Park.  He is an active runner and enjoys fishing.

David Compton


David Compton was educated at Victoria University and has been a partner of Oldershaw & Co Ltd since 1976.  In 1990 he attained Certified Financial Planner Status and has been offering financial advice via Spicers Portfolio Management Ltd.

He specialises in commercial accounting and taxation, trust administration, risk management, succession planning, asset protection and financial planning.

His interests include golf, travel and fishing.  He has served as Director of the Napier Golf Club since 2002.
